Shawn Serfas grew up exploring the northern reaches of Saskatchewan’s lakes and river systems. Although initially drawn to an academic career in the environmental sciences, Serfas pursued Fine Arts and Art History degrees in Saskatchewan as well as a Master of Fine Arts degree at the University of Alberta.

In March 2020, the Rodman Hall Art Centre showed Industrial Niagara, an exhibition curated by Derek Knight, that brought together key works by members of the Research Centre in Interdisciplinary Arts and Creative Culture, Brock University.

Latitudes is a collage whose only constraint is to use fragments of existing texts and images and whose objective is to briefly suggest the outline of an imaginary novel.
