Band B der „Bataille Maschine“ ist ein eigenständiges, selbst verantwortetes Buch, das inhaltlich und formal den Bezug zum Band A von Marcus Steinweg herstellt. Es enthält dessen Texte „Warum Nietzsche?“ und „Philosophie der Verantwortung“, die er für die Workshops im „Bataille Monument“ geschrieben hat.

"Das Auge" ist der Titel meiner Ausstellung in der Secession. "Das Auge" hat nichts zu tun mit Georges Bataille - den ich verehre. Ich will – als Künstler – eine Arbeit machen, die sich in keinem Fall historischen Tatsachen beugt. Mit der Arbeit "Das Auge" will ich diesem Widerstand gegen die Tatsachen eine Form geben.

Vierzehn internationale Künstler – u. a. Hilton Als, Ida Ekblad, Glenn Ligon und Thomas Hirschhorn – schlüpfen in Rollen aus Film, TV, Literatur und Kunst, um William Blake (1757–1827) neu zu befragen.

Dia Art Foundation commissioned Thomas Hirschhorn to build Gramsci Monument, an excessive outdoor sculpture that measured 8,000 square feet and was located on the grounds of Forest Houses,in New York (Bronx). On display for 77 days, with daily and weekly events organized by the artist, Gramsci Monument concluded Hirschhorn’s series of “monuments” dedicated to philosophers, which began in 1999.

The book is a wordless visual document, featuring full-bleed color images that capture the exhibition and each artist's contribution.
