This book has been published as a part of the European Cultural Happening "Mix it Up", where invited artists and designers from a range of different professions were asked to interpret artwork form the collection at the National Gallery of Denmark.

Amy Friend prefers imaginary worlds to reality. She wants to use photography as the medium bringing an opportunity to explore the relationship between the visible and the non-visible, sometimes even giving new life to images. Which is the case in this series, going by the name of Dare alla Luce, an Italian expression that literally means “giving to the light” but is a term used to describe the moment of birth.

The essays collected in this book were first presented in the autumn of 1990 as part of a lecture series entitled Vancouver Anthology, a forum in which each contributing writer could test his or her research on the question of art and politics in public, before their papers were sent into print.

This special issue is a key to unraveling an intricate fabric of discourse confirmed by what we might call a min(d)field of questions concerning situations.

ALUAN is an exhibition space in the shape of a magazine. Holmqvist composes dense typographic images built solely from letters, numerals and special characters: staggered “H” blocks form skylines, cascades of “777” suggest rhythm, while symbol clusters read like concrete emojis. Text becomes pure graphic matter – a piece of visual concrete poetry fusing architecture with language.
