  • Specialism
    David Blamey
It is widely assumed that everyone is ‘interdisciplinary’ nowadays, that we all work at the intersections of conventional disciplines. But if being flexible, multi-skilled and polymathic are the prerequisites of survival in today’s world, why do educators and art marketeers still find it imperative to maintain conditions of production that advocate specialist outcomes?

  • Distributed
    David Blamey, Brad Haylock
For those who would seek to influence others, the dissemination of ideas is
paramount. Similarly, for those holding ambition to secrete knowledge for reasons of authority, or to protect the fruits of intellectual labour for reasons of profit or ethical concern, distribution is key. Certainly before, but more importantly since the Gutenberg Bible, the predicament of the power of knowledge has lain not with its generation but with the control of its dispersion.

He creates photographic fictional compositions originating from the new capitalist life formed in his ex-socialist country in 1991. The first of these is the 'Panoramas' series which he produced in his hometown Karaçayevsk. And the more recent, is a collection of fictionassemblage panoramas that he displayed in his first solo exhibition in Gallery Nev, Istanbul in April 2009.

Equal parts sexy and sweet, and with the ease and freedom of a true californian, jimmy doesn't hand out assignments, but rather invites established and unheard queer voices to contribute provocative images and thoughtful texts that they find meaningful. In a blog-cluttered world, jimmy revives the form of the classic, printed fag mag to preserve and document a unique and city-specific cultural moment!“

In each of his carefully executed installations, a distant locale or notable event is evoked along with characters both real and imagined. Each work seems to suggest a larger enigmatic story, leading ultimately to a narrative of our invention, sparked by Dodge's compelling objects.
