In 2018, the artist Elisa Rose and the musician Gary Danner will have been involved in digital art for 30 years as STATION ROSE/STR. During that time, there was a transformation from a purely analog to a new, irretrievably interwoven digital/analog world.

Aping a 1970s concept album, Cranfield and Slade present twelve songs arranged to represent a day, beginning with songs about sunrise and winding down with songs about sunsets. Benedict is a versatile artist, who uses different media to create hybrid and complex images and installations that have been defined as “picture in the picture”. After making a name for himself in 2008 with the series Post Card – out-and-out post cards with address, scratched notes and short ironic messages, where small paintings turned into a kind of stamp –, Benedict focuses on various combinations of gouache paintings and cut-out studio portraits, glued and mounted on foam core panels and aluminum frames. Pro Choice (2010), Black Friday (2012) or Bonjour Tourist (2012), are just some examples of his unusual and hardly contextualizable compositions, that represent people, friends and models: they were asked to pose in front of paintings and photographed alone or in couples, seating behind a table or office desk, having dinner, reading the newspaper, smoking, or gazing at each other. For Carnet de miart, the artist transformed his latest effort, “Corruption Feeds” (Bergen Kunsthall, 2014—the largest and most ambitious exhibition by Benedict to date) into a screensaver for the reader to download.

In 2017 steirische herbst, one of the oldest multidisciplinary contemporary art festivals in Europe, will take place for the 50th time. Since its founding in 1968, the festival for performance art, theatre, visual arts, music, architecture, dance, literature, film and theory has been a platform for the lively debate concerning the complex social, political and economic conditions of the present.

Every object tells a story. And many stories are now told through objects – it’s a zeitgeist that’s been prevalent since artists like Gordon Matta-Clark championed the stories contained in items of garbage. This narrative device is one we now see a lot, made popular by recent radio shows like ‘The History of the World in 100 Objects’ and Edmund de Vaal’s ‘The Hare With the Amber Eyes’.

The new body of work of Belgian collaborative duo Aline Bouvy / John Gillis consists of canvases that mix embroidery with oil painting, found objects and collage. They depict urban scenarios and quotidian figures in a stylised faux-Primitivist manner attentive to social iconography as well as to the magnification of the body. The violence of the subjects collide with the meticulousness of their needlework and the use of precious, colorful textiles.

PERSONA is the second magazine in a series in response to a series of meetings of female artists entitled "A conversation to know if there is a conversation to be had" held in New York, Amsterdam, Berlin and London in 2010-11.

Noodles is a collection of prints that reproduce Rope’s original ink paintings. The ongoing series started in 2015 when the artist took part in the Little Paper Planes -residency program in San Francisco and continues to date. The first paintings were made on sheets of colored paper stuck together with masking tape to create multi-shaded backgrounds for the ink shapes. The paintings are reproduced in the publication exploring different colour schemes and at the same time respecting the technique of the originals.

Michel Majerus was one of the earliest painters to address how digital technology is changing the visible world, and perhaps the first to employ Photoshop. Initially he transferred his sampled and layered imagery onto canvas by hand, but with these paintings on aluminum he began screen-printing it directly into the composition, a leap that would irrevocably change the course of his work.
