  • Invernomuto Negus
    Simone Bertuzzi, Simone Trabucchi
Negus has originated from a very specific historical event dating back to the time of the Italian occupation in Ethiopia in 1936, when a wounded soldier was forced to return to Vernasca (PC), Invernomuto’s native town. On the occasion of his return, the community organized a joyful and obscure ritual in the main square during which was burnt the effigy of Haile Selassie I, last Negus of Ethiopia as well as the Messiah according to the Rastafarian cult, developed in Jamaica during the early 30s. The book, further development of the project Negus, contains an extensive visual section developed drawing on various personal archives, two unpublished essays by David Katz and Anna Della Subin and an interview with the two artists held by Frida Carazzato (Museion, Bolzano) and Emanuele Guidi (ar/ge kunst, Bolzano).

  • an old dirt trail, a dead oak tree, a big rock on a hill

By the same token, emotionally charged scenes are presented as though they were being reported with a childlike lack of understanding. Situations are not translated, but rendered literally; the artist provides no commentary, but lets the image speak for itself.
  • Several Drawings on Top of Each Other
    Mark Manders
In Manders's drawings, which clearly occur on a two-dimensional plane, a complex world is constructed. Certain elements continually resurface in different forms. In this way, he invests these individual elements with a visual past. Manders's technical style is diverse. The drawings seem to have been created quickly and directly, sometimes with only a few lines that encompass interior spaces. Depth is created with simple methods of perspective; these never deny the two-dimensional surface of the drawing paper, however.
In his drawings, Mark Manders plays with the spectator's perception and seems to be able to anticipate how one thought follows the next; his images direct the thought process.
