  • Community of Absence
    Haegue Yang
This publication is another extension of Yanks research, elaborating further on the seemingly contradictory and estranging concept of “community of absence”. It is not a catalouge or artists monograph in the traditional sense, as its ambition is not to represent the exhibition at BAK or a specific series of works, but rather to map the trajectory and movement towards a new community to come as envisioned in her work. Yang actively engages other cultural practioniers in her research - in this way, she creates a community of her own.

    A Long Time Between Us
This monograph on The Otolith Group reveals the tantalizing work coming from this group founded in 2002 by London-based artists Kodwo Eshun and Anjalika Sagar. Engaging with archival materials, futurity, and with the histories of transnationality, Otolith suggests a future in which the past is treated as a relic, an idea that has the potential to inform the present and modify the future.
  • The Funambulist - Politics of Space and Bodies
    Radicalized Incarceration/12
    Léopold Lambert
Racialized Incarceration constitutes a form of sequel to issues 4 and 5. This issue builds on these two precedents in demonstrating that incarceration is one of the horizons of processes of racialization and that architecture is an unsurpassable instrument of its enforcement.

Times are tough for publishing books and periodicals in the U.S. Hell, it is tough for most people in general. We are happy that the folks at the Journal of Aesthetics & Protest didn't let the deplorable conditions, of our economy and country, keep them from printing a new issue of their magazine! Though this is their thinnest volume to date, and a dramatic change in format, the result is concentrated, and high-impact. Everything is streamlined including the design, by Jessica Fleischmann, which is really sharp.
