Ein wesentlicher Aspekt im Werk von Bernhard Cella besteht in der Erforschung von inneren und äußeren Formen des Verweilens sowie der von ihm ins Werk gesetzten Repräsentation und Verschiebung durch den Formenkanon der Kunst.

Acht Künstler*innen nehmen in der Ausstellung „Zechyr im Blick“ Bezug auf das thematisch und stilistisch sehr persönlich geprägte Werk von Othmar Zechyr (1938 -1996), der zu den bedeutendsten Zeichnern der zweiten Hälfte des 20. Jahrhunderts in Österreich zählt. Der Dialog, der sich aus diesen Reaktionen und der Gegenüberstellung unterschiedlicher zeichnerischer Positionen entwickelt, ist Thema der Ausstellung.

Shawn Serfas grew up exploring the northern reaches of Saskatchewan’s lakes and river systems. Although initially drawn to an academic career in the environmental sciences, Serfas pursued Fine Arts and Art History degrees in Saskatchewan as well as a Master of Fine Arts degree at the University of Alberta.

In a strictly formal arrangement, Bernhard Cella becomes engaged with the hitherto published works by Hans Ulrich Olbrist. In less than two decades, Olbrist has produced 69 publications, which are presented here in watercolor version.

Barbara Jean Hammer (1939-2019) gilt als Pionierin des queeren und feministischen Kinos und war eine der ersten Filmemacherinnen, die sich ausdrücklich dafür einsetzte, lesbische Realitäten sichtbar zu machen. In experimentellen sowie dokumentarischen Filmen, Fotografien, Zeichnungen, Collagen und Performances beschäftigte sich die Künstlerin mit der Auflösung der vorherrschenden Geschlechterrollen, der lesbischen Identität und der Sexualität. Hammers Arbeit beleuchtete Tabuthemen wie Altern, Krankheit und Tod.

Handmade is an ecstatic archive of synthetic handmade Artist’s books. Sequenced in no particular order, the project searches for meaning in the future tense through time, text, and touch.

The publication is developed as a reflection on books as archives of touch. Visiting our local public library, the Philipp Schaeffer Bibliothek in Berlin, we checked out a selection of books that caught our attention. Bringing them home, we took photographs of handling and reading the books, which we then printed out and inserted back into the books. Following this, we returned books to the library with these hidden pages added.

The notebook of James William Lacelot Lowther brings together drawings, sketches, dreams, watercolours, and paintings that document the artistic work of the artist. William, who passed away at the age of 21, was a talented, passionate, and empathetic young artist.

Midnight Deer Abstractions is a collaboration between artist Geoff Farnsworth and poet Erin Knight to produce limitless in-betweens and vast spaces where slight variations contain all the precisions of colour and diction, rendered immediately nebulous. Creating spectral selves, they invite us to look “between foreground and background” for the traces and sketches of identities, whose edits are vague, always disappearing to be retraced, resketched.

Linda Carreiro and Lan “Florence” Yee refute the notion that what cannot be apprehended is worthless. Their glossary may be read as a manifesto encouraging us to pay more attention to the blurs and vagueness of our environments and thoughts, and to our societies’ invisibilities – prompting us to open our creative minds and welcome uncertainties and the unknown with generosity.

Susan Philipsz is one of the internationally most renowned contemporary artists. Her art explores the boundaries between sculpture and sound, between materiality and immateriality.

"body to book” is an upcycling project that explores the relationship between the human body and books. It comprises six sculptures assembled from coat fragments and books, each covering a naked body. This arrangement invites explorations of sensuality and intimacy and encourages direct interaction with the subject. Through calling us to examine the subtle interactions between the body and the books, it offers new perspectives for artistic, philosophical and personal reflection on matter, media and the human condition.

Bernhard Cella's performance uncovers the artistic potential of everyday situations associated with physical and mental mobility. The artist draws up scenes of European lockdown cowboys misappropriating props of lost urban life, celebrating memories of authentic knowledge sanctuaries, uninhibited revealing in open public spaces and inebriation with the flow of social interaction.
Cella manipulates and strings together various aesthetic aspects of fading cultural artifacts and, in collaboration with an art audience, produces a transformed experiential space-for a limited time only.

entalhs… puts into words and images the gesture of the sculptor who cuts stone and that of the marble cutter in a quarry by the Mediterranean Sea. It celebrates nothingness from which a calm joy emerges.

In "Près de Nemi, encore la même histoire," exchanges of text and images take place in the vicinity of rest, action, and the will to both. The undecidability of constant dusk provides a background for exploring the limits of somatic experience, where the images incite touch, texture, and uncomfortable tenderness.

Five films were created between 2013 and 2019, without official invitations, in the most prestigious exhibition venues in Austria: Vienna Secession, mumok kino, the former Generali Foundation, the Austrian Film Museum, and the Austrian Pavilion in Venice.
