Seit drei Jahrzehnten arbeitet Yasumasa Morimura als konzeptueller Fotograf und Filmemacher. Er gilt als einer der bedeutendsten Vertreter der Appropriation Art und der inszenierten Fotografie.

Dieses Buch stellt einen wesentlichen Beitrag zur wissenschaftlichen Aufarbeitung der Gründungsperiode der modernen Architektur, des Designs und eine Herausforderung für das MAK dar. Es wurde mit dem Österreichischen Staatspreis für das schönste Kunstbuch 2007 ausgezeichnet.

Armin Chodzinski ist Künstler und Wissenschaftler und beschäftigt sich eigentlich ausschließlich mit dem Verhältnis von Kunst und Wirtschaft. Die Stadt, sagt er, sei das Destillat dieses Verhältnisses und deshalb beschäftigt er sich damit, denn Kunst ist gesellschaftlich wirksam - behauptet er. Als Forscher begibt er sich immer wieder in unterschiedliche Kontexte, nicht als Beobachter, sondern als Teilnehmer, nicht als circensischer Fake, sondern wirklich echt: So war er schon Unternehmensberater und Manager, Geograph und Politiker, Tänzer und Ökonom, Stadtentwickler und Aktivist, Performer und Radiomoderator... aber eigentlich immer Künstler.

Mit diesem Buch liegt der Fokus erstmals auf der erweiterten Fotografien von Alfons Schilling, bis hin zu den filmischen Experimenten und performativen Projektionen. Zentrales Thema seines bahnbrechenden Schaffens ist eine Kritik der Wahrnehmung, die Entfesselung des Sehens selbst: „It’s not what’s on the picture – it’s what is behind it.“

Following on from an obsession with the film Zabriskie Point, Nicolai has produced a body of photographic work inspired by this Antonioni movie.

Óscar Monzón undertook, in Madrid, between 2009 and 2013, a large scale project on the sphere of cars, and more precisely on the drivers' relationship to their automobile. This work results in the book Karma. Never fabricated, these photos, most of which we can imagine were stolen, refer to Luc Boltanski's concept of "body car". Being the only object which both completely absorbs us and that we can manipulate at our own will from the inside, cars cause a sensation of passing elsewhere with a sense of security. They offer a private space among the midst of public sphere and create a familiar realm which permits the most private experiences. Óscar Monzón is interested in this distinctive feature, he violates the enclosed space, catches the scenery with a flash and defies the privacy of the cars drivers.

Die Publikation «Chewing the Scenery» erscheint als eigenständiger Beitrag zur gelichnamigen Ausstellung, welche Teil des diesjährigen Schweizer Beitrages zur Biennale von Venedig ist.

Every object tells a story. And many stories are now told through objects – it’s a zeitgeist that’s been prevalent since artists like Gordon Matta-Clark championed the stories contained in items of garbage. This narrative device is one we now see a lot, made popular by recent radio shows like ‘The History of the World in 100 Objects’ and Edmund de Vaal’s ‘The Hare With the Amber Eyes’.

Gabriela Oberkoflers Zeichnungen, Skulpturen, Performances und Installationen zeigen allerlei Tiere, Pflanzen und Bäume, allerlei Kleines – zumeist Gefundenes –, Möbel und Architekturen, und auch Gummistiefel.

Der Norweger Bjarne Melgaard ist Shooting Star und enfant terrible der internationalen Kunstszene.

Bilder des Krieges – eine künstlerische Untersuchung zu Fragen der Wahrnehmung, des Sehens und der Institution Museum

The new body of work of Belgian collaborative duo Aline Bouvy / John Gillis consists of canvases that mix embroidery with oil painting, found objects and collage. They depict urban scenarios and quotidian figures in a stylised faux-Primitivist manner attentive to social iconography as well as to the magnification of the body. The violence of the subjects collide with the meticulousness of their needlework and the use of precious, colorful textiles.
